Interview patients to verify medical information.

Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.

Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.

Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.

Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.

Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians’ instructions to patients.

Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing/inserting urinary catheters.

Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.

Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.

Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.

Schedule appointments for patients.

Change dressings on wounds.

Greet and log in patients arriving at office or clinic.

Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admission.

Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictation and completing insurance forms.

Inventory and order medical, lab, and office supplies and equipment.

Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.

Set up medical laboratory equipment.

Obtain necessary approvals for patient visit, procedure, or diagnostic testing including, but not limited to, PCP referrals, NIA authorization numbers for radiology procedures, and insurance pre-certifications and pre-authorizations as necessary.

Schedule surgical procedures in accordance with office policy and procedures.

Ensure the timely billing and accurate coding of all patient services and troubleshoot any billing issues.

Schedule surgical office follow-up appointments, collect co-pays, and verify insurance eligibility.

Provide support services to patients and medical staff as required.

Assist in establishing office systems to ensure optimal patient flow.

Schedule surgical procedures including pre-admission testing, pre-op clearances, order MRI, CT, Bone Scan and lab testing.

Ensure all pertinent patient information is complete and forwarded to the appropriate departments for surgical and diagnostic procedures.

Ensure accurate demographic and insurance information.

Maintain communication with Director of Clinical Services.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with patients, parents, other employees, hospital staff, and physicians.

Transcribe recorded messages and practitioners’ diagnoses and recommendations into patients’ medical records.

Complete laboratory order forms.

Perform all other duties necessary for a smooth and efficient office as directed by their supervisor.
